Good software should get out of your way. Few things have done this for me as well as Octopress, which so perfectly fit my workflow that I had started four posts before even looking at the configuration options.
Byword
Writing is hard, and eliminating as many distractions can mean the difference between surfing Hacker News all day, or actually finishing a blog post. Combined with Mac OS X Lion’s fullscreen mode, my computer might as well be a typewriter.
Typekit
The fine folks at Typekit enable some really fantastic web typography. And if you were looking for some shameless self promotion, you can find all of Wood Type Revival’s fonts on Typekit.
Heroku
This site is effortlessly hosted via Heroku. Besides being completely painless to manage, they do a fantastic job caching static assets (i.e. this entire site) to deliver top-notch performance.
Coffee
Could I get through the day without a delicious cup of coffee? Probably. But that’s not a world I want to live in.
